Mariz Umali explores an abandoned hospital in I-Witness this Saturday

I-Witness host Mariz Umali

Fear is a normal emotion that can protect you from danger. But letting fear control and dictate your actions can limit your experiences.

This Saturday (Oct. 30), I-Witness host Mariz Umali tests her inner strength as she enters an abandoned hospital up in a hill which has gained a reputation for being haunted. This old structure is surrounded by huge Ficus trees. The roots have begun to engulf portions of the hospital that has been abandoned for about 30 years. Adding to its mystery is the fact that nobody knows much about the history of this hospital, but the residents have plenty of creepy stories to share.

Janine Piñon grew up playing in the grounds of the hospital. She remembers seeing a child playing in the area near the morgue. Thinking it was just another kid, she follows him until she sees him magically disappear inside a tiny crack in the wall.

Ricardo Madriaga, a long-time caretaker of the hospital ruins, tells of stories more sinister. He shares that for a month, he would hear a woman calling his name at night and, at one point, claiming to see a woman clad in white sitting and staring at him from the abandoned hospital.

As the I-Witness team enters the hospital, many unexplained events begin to unfold—from a camera that suddenly begins to malfunction to strange noises being recorded but could not be heard during filming. Mariz experiences a spine-tingling moment as she catches a sudden movement in her peripheral vision, in the dark, empty hallway.

What other secrets lie hidden inside the deserted hallways of the hospital? Find out this Saturday on a special Halloween offering of I-Witness, “Tahimik na Sigaw,'' 10:30 p.m. after Daddy’s Gurl on GMA Network.
