
An earthquake measuring 4.7-magnitude struck Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental around Friday noon, Oct. 29, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs detected the tremor at 12:33 p.m.
The epicenter of the earthquake was traced 34 kilometers (km) southeast of Balut Island, Sarangani town in Davao Occidental, at a depth of 185 kilometers, based on Phivolcs' preliminary report.
Its instruments measured the quake at Intensity I in General Santos City.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
However, it does not expect damage to property or aftershocks due to this earthquake.
