Hesitancy not observed during initial rollout of COVID-19 pediatric vaccination----PIDSP

A pediatric infectious disease expert said that parents were not hesitant in getting their children vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) during the government's initial rollout of vaccination for adolescents with comorbidities.
Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines (PIDSP) President Dr. Mary Ann Bunyi said that the government was effective in its messaging about the importance of vaccines.
"Marahil po kasi dahil naunawaan ng mga magulang na ang mga anak nila na mayroong comorbidities or may underlying medical conditions, sila po iyong mga bata na maaaring magkaroon ng malubhang COVID-19 (Perhaps because parents understand that their children have comorbidities or have underlying medical conditions--- that they are prone to have severe COVID-19)," she said.
"At saka siguro po naparating nang maayos na iyong bakuna ay ligtas at mabisa laban sa COVID kaya wala ho kaming naging balakid sa pagtanggap nila ng COVID-19 na bakuna (And maybe, it was conveyed properly that the vaccines are safe and effective against COVID, so we didn't encounter a challenge for them to receive the COVID-19 vaccine)," she added.
The government started the COVID-19 vaccination for children with comorbidities aged 12 to 17 last Oct. 15 in Metro Manila. The program is set to be implemented nationwide for all children aged 12 to 17 on Nov. 3.
Bunyi said that the initial phase of the vaccination program was successful.
“Naging tahimik at maayos po ang naging rollout ng pagbabakuna dito sa mga batang ito (The rollout of vaccination for these children has been peaceful and orderly),” she said.
The pediatric doctor encouraged more parents to let their children be vaccinated against the dreaded illness.
"Sa mga magulang at mga kabataan na hindi pa nakakapagpabakuna, ito yung pagkakataon ninyo na madagdagan ang inyong proteksiyon laban sa COVID. Ang rollout ay i-e-expand na by November, first week of November (For parents and young people who have not yet been vaccinated, this is your chance to increase your protection against COVID. The rollout will be expanded by the first week of November)," she said
"Hinihikayat ko na iyong mga magulang as well as iyong mga kabataan na may edad dose pataas eh kunin ninyo iyong pagkakataon na mabakunahan kayo (I encourage the parents and our young people aged twelve and up to take the chance to get vaccinated)," she added.
