Aksyon Chairman Ramel backs debates among 2022 national election candidates
Aksyon Demokratiko Chairman Ernest Ramel urged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday, Oct. 29, to conduct more debates among candidates gunning for national positions in the 2022 national elections.
In a statement, Ramel said the 2016 national debates conducted by Comelec together with Kapisanan ng mga Broadcasters sa Pilipinas (KBP) focused solely on presidential candidates. He said that there were three debates for the presidentiables and only one debate for vice presidentiables.
The party chairman also called on the Comelec to launch a debate that will highlight the senatoriables' platforms and legislative agenda.
“It’s high time for the Comelec to provide a venue for senatorial candidates to bare their legislative agenda in a formal setting. Bitin kung presidential at vice presidential debates lang ulit ang debates for the 2022 elections,” Ramel said.
Ramel explained that Aksyon Demokratiko’s senatorial lineup is composed of highly qualified candidates who are very competent in their respective fields of expertise.
The party previously announced their three senatorial bets -- Moro civic leader Samira Gutoc, two-term Quezon City Councilor Jopet Sison, and registered nurse and midwife Carl Balita.
“We are also proud to say that Aksyon’s national candidates -- for president, vice president and senator -- are all self-made and they do not rely on a political dynasty unlike most national candidates,” said Ramel.
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso and cardiologist Dr. Willie Ong are the party's candidates for president and vice president, respectively.
