An earthquake measuring 4.2-magnitude jolted Sultan Kudarat at 9:09 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The epicenter was traced at 5 kilometers north of Columbio, Sultan Kudarat, Phivolcs said in its preliminary report.

It was slightly felt at Intensity II in Columbio, Sultan Kudarat, while it was scarcely perceptible at Intensity I in Makilala and Arakan in Cotabato province.

Phivolcs' instruments also measured the quake at Intensity II in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

It said the earthquake may have caused damage in the affected areas.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
