BOC seizes P362M worth of agricultural products in Subic

Agents of the Bureau of Customs confiscated some P362 million worth of various smuggled agriculture products in Zambales.

The smuggled items were inside 60 40-foot container vans that were inspected by agents of the BOC-Port of Subic on Monday.

BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero said the items entered Port of Subic through container shipments.

He said they were declared as either frozen breads, frozen jams, and yellow onions consigned to Zhenpin Consumer Goods Trading, Duar Te Mira Non-Specialized Wholesale, Gingarnion Agri Trading, and Thousand Sunny Enterprise.

However, upon inspection, the bureau found onions, carrots and broccoli.

The 60 container vans were seized for violating Section 1113 (f) in relation to Section 1400 of the Republic Act No. 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and Department of Agriculture Department Circular No. 04 series of 2016.

"So far, the latest operation is the largest forfeiture of agricultural products at the Port of Subic," said BOC Spokesperson Jet Moranilla.

“We continue to reach out to our fellow Filipinos, if they see something illegal, smuggled, inform us at BOC and we’ll check,” the official added.
