The Council of the Laity of the Philippines (Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas) is urging eligible voters to register with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to be able to vote in the 2022 national elections.
Bro. Roquel Ponte, president of the council said, eligible voters must take the opportunity to register which is the first step in helping the country by electing the right leaders. Ponte particularly called on first time voters, the youth, and those who failed to vote in the last two elections.
"This is a call from the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas. We call on all peace loving Filipinos, especially those who really want to elevate our country to a greater place, to achieve prosperity and success. Let us all participate in the coming elections next year by registering as voters. We hope and pray that we will take on the very important task of helping our nation,” Ponte said over Radio Veritas.
The COMELEC has extended the deadline for the registration of voters until Oct. 30 for the 2022 National and Local Elections. The COMELEC has even extended the time for voter registration from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Some key areas in the country have also begun accepting registrants on Saturdays.
