Bato meets Sara Duterte as substitution deadline nears

Presidential aspirant Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Monday, Oct. 25 met with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio as the deadline for the substitution for political candidates for the upcoming May 2022 elections is fast approaching.

In his Facebook post, Dela Rosa shared a photo of him and the presidential daughter at the Davao City Hall where they met supposedly to discuss plans for next year’s polls.

“Teaser lang muna ito sa aming meeting with Mayor Inday Sara minutes ago at Davao City Hall,” Dela Rosa wrote in his post.

Asked what they talked about, Dela Rosa responded: “I just reminded her that Nov. 15 is fast approaching.”

The Comelec has set the deadline for the substitution of candidates until November 15.

Dela Rosa earlier denied he is a placeholder for the Davao city mayor when he accepted the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban’s (PDP-Laban) order to run for president.

But Dela Rosa admitted having been informed by the party faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi that he would be fielded as the party standard bearer a few hours before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) closed the filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) last Oct. 8.

Dela Rosa also said he is willing to give way should the presidential daughter decide to run for president.

Duterte-Carpio, on the other hand, maintained she will only seek reelection in 2022.

Dela Rosa’s post came after Duterte-Carpio reportedly met with another presidential aspirant, former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. in Cebu last Saturday where the mayor allegedly discussed ways on how to help Marcos in his bid.
