Blacklist admits targeting rookie Raizen in its bans against Omega

Blacklist International admitted that the team made a conscious effort of limiting rising rookie Christian “Raizen” Sumagui in its 3-1 victory over Omega Esports in their lower bracket finals match in the MPL Philippines Season 8 playoffs on Sunday, October 24.

In an interview with Jonmar “OhmyV33nus” Villaluna after the game, the Blacklist captain said that they mapped out a plan to get Raizen out of his comfort heroes. Blacklist banned assassin heroes Hayabusa, Ling and Lancelot in their first three bans in all of four games of the series.

“Nagbased lang kami sa naging matchup namin sa upper bracket and dun sa matchup nila against Onic, and nakita namin na going back to the regular season paulit ulit lang yung ginagamit niya,” OhmyV33nus said of the rookie.

Aside from being the focal point of Omega’s rotation together with star gold laner Duane “Kelra” Pillas, OhmyV33nus revealed that they decided to target the rookie and try to pressure him especially that it was his first time experiencing an on-site event.

“Knowing na on-site yung event ngayon, kailangan meron kaming targetin na isang player which is si Raizen. Alam naman natin si Raizen 'di pa nakakaencounter ng ganitong setup ng tournament,” added OhmyV33nus.

The plan seemed to work well to their favor as Raizen had a hard time during the series, forcing him to unusual hero picks like the Balmond and Paquito.

With that ploy, Blacklist redeemed itself after Omega dropped the defending champions to the lower bracket in their upper bracket match.

“Di pa rin ako makapaniwala na Grand Finalist kami. Pinakamaingay si Oheb (during celebration) kasi alam naman natin yung rivalry between Blacklist and Omega, kung gaano talaga kainit. Ilang beses na rin nila kami natalo, sila pa ‘yung naglaglag sa amin ngayong playoffs so parang redemption na kami rin ‘yung maglaglag sila,” OhyMyV33nus said.
