Wushu team reaps six golds at Asian online meet

The Philippine wushu team reaped six gold and six silver medals in the recent Asian Traditional Wushu Championships 2021 held online.

Multiple Southeast Asian Games champion Agatha Wong and Thornton Quieney Lou Sayan bannered the crew by clinching two gold medals each in their events, while Dave Degala and Jones Inso pocketed one gold apiece.

Wong, who also won bronze at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, ruled in the tai ji quan and taiji weapon events, while Thornton dominated the nan quan and single weapon.

Inso prevailed in the taiji weapon even as Degala also topped the soft double weapon event.

Inso and Degala also went home with respective silvers in the quan and tai ji quan events.

Completing the medal haul for Team PH were Daniel Parantac, who finished silver in the tai ji quan and taiji weapon, as well as Johnzenth Gajo, who bagged two silvers in the quan and single weapon events.

The Wushu Federation of the Philippines hopes this would be a springboard for its preparations for the 31st Southeast Asian Games scheduled in May 2022 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
