Olsim shifts focus to atomweight division

Team Lakay's Jenelyn Olsim will dedicate her time and effort to focus on the atomweight division after being placed in the grand prix's alternate bout against Malaysian foe Jihin Radzuan in ONE: NEXTGEN II next month.

Olsim, who actually made her debut under the strawweight division, opted to fight in the atomweight due to the volume of fighters available and the ongoing tournament.

"I'm actually very open for any fights. And as for now, our atomweight has a lot of fights to offer," said the 24-year-old Olsim. "So I think I'm staying in atom for now. Because I was also fighting atomweight before.

"I went up to strawweight because that's what they (ONE) first offered and I got high weight before."

Olsim submitted Brazilian veteran Maira Maizar in her promotional debut last March and continued her winnings ways, this time in the atomweight division, against another seasoned fighter in Bi Nguyen on August.

As part of the alternate bout in the grand prix, Olsim had prepared for Grace Cleveland but was cancelled due to health concerns of her opponent.

The Team Lakay stalwart, who owns a 5-2 record, continued training and added lots of conditioning and ground game routine heading into the match against Radzuan on November 12 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

"She's a technical fighter," Olsim told of Radzuan. "She doesn't use too much strength but she puts too much technique on her fights. So I think our fight is going to be technical."

The 22-year-old Radzuan, for her part, scored a unanimous decision win over Nguyen as well in December last year to improve at 6-2 record.
