BI catches two aliens smuggling shabu inside prison cell

A Somali and Korean nationals were caught smuggling shabu inside the Bureau of Immigration detention facility (BIWF) in Taguig City.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said an alert jail guard spotted Ali Osman Mohamed, 37, passing a cigarette pack containing the illegal substance to Nam Sangmin, 42.

BIWF chief warden Jan Kevin Gomez believed that the sachet of shabu was inserted inside a packed food or other supplies brought in by the visitors of the duo.

Morente said illegal possession of drugs will be filed against the undesirable aliens in addition to other criminal charges they are facing.

Under existing laws and regulations, a foreigner found guilty of a criminal offense can only be deported after serving prison term.

Records showed Mohamed was arrested in 2019 for overstaying and Nam in 2018, wanted by South Korean authorities for large scale financial scam.
