2 million jobs for Iloilo's pandemic recovery

ILOILO CITY — At least two million jobs will be generated for the city and province of Iloilo under the National Employment Recovery Strategy (NERS), which is the national government’s response to the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was disclosed by Senator Joel Villanueva during a visit to Iloilo Wednesday, October 20.

With this, Villanueva is pushing for localized identifications of jobs per industry that can be generated until 2022 as means to cushion the impact of COVID-19.

For Iloilo, the senator is pushing for creation of score cards for the industries of information technology-business process outsourcing (IT-BPO), tourism, manufacturing, and agriculture.

“Out of the two million, we need to know the number of potential jobs per sector,” Villanueva said.

The senator explained that the score cards will be the blue print for government agencies on how to work with the private sector to generate the jobs lost since the pandemic began last March 2020.

Villanueva both had meetings with Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. of Iloilo province and Mayor Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City.
