ILOILO CITY — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is going to posthumously award a medal for a cop killed while responding to a shooting incident in Bugasong town, Antique province.
Police Staff Sergeant Elvin Agting will be awarded the Medalya ng Kadakilaan.
“His heroism is an inspiration and will not be forgotten,” said Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, director of Police Regional Office (PRO-6).
The announcement came after PRO-6 handed out financial assistance to the family of Agting in Bugasong early this week.
To recall, Agting was among three people killed last Friday, October 15.
The 42-year-old cop died when he was shot by Roy “Tito” Jalipa, the 33-year-old suspect who initially shot and killed village councilor Efren Florendo.
Agting was among the Bugasong police officers who went to the house of the suspect’s sibling.
When Agting’s superior was trying to negotiate with the family for Jalipa’s surrender, a shot was fired and Agting fell to the ground.
Unbeknownst to everyone, the suspect was looking through the window of the house and was already aiming the homemade gun at Agting. The cop was taken to the nearby hospital, where he died.
