We wonder, how heavy were the coins?

Posted early on the evening of October 20 are photos of a man named Manny Herrera of Bacoor, Cavite who dropped by the shop in Metro Manila to purchase a bicycle.

What the netizens, and even bicycle enthusiasts, love about the post is that Herrera brought 10-peso coins worth P13,000 to purchase the two-wheel bike.

“The whole team is so proud of you sir Manny Herrera of Bacoor, Cavite for your hard work and determination in getting the bike of your dreams. May you and your son enjoy your new bike. Happy to see you today. We got so inspired,” posted in their Facebook page.

In an interview with the wife of Herrera, Lorna Balancar, the mom revealed that they started saving for the bike last year. “Gusto niya (their second son Giruo Jet B. Herrera) talaga magka bike,” she says. So how did they save up and why were they all 10-peso coins? They have a sari-sari store. Every time a customer pays with P10 coins, they segregate it already to save up for the bike.

It took them three months to save, and when the father-and-son tandem travelled all the way from Cavite to searched for the prefect bike as the couple’s birthday gift. It was a one-hour road trip in a motorcycle. They were canvassing for the best prices until they found one in Team Bisekleta Manila.

They chose the mountain peak model. Their son wanted one where he can go on road trips with bike enthusiasts. Upon payment, the people from the shop were surprised to see that it was all 10-peso coins. The couple didn’t have time to go to the bank to have them changed to bills. It took them 30 minutes to count the coins.

The couple’s advice? “Kung may sobra, kailangan magtabi para kahit papaano kung may nais kang bilhin, mabibili mo. Masarap kasi sa pakiramdam na makuha mo yung bagay galing sa ipon mo.”
