Rebisco remains winless with straight-set loss to Supreme Chonburi in Asian Women's Club tilt

Team Rebisco succumbed to a more experienced Supreme Chonburi of Thailand, 25-11, 25-16, 25-16, for a second straight loss in the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

The Filipina spikers showed signs of life in the last two sets but couldn’t sustain their charge as the Thais proved to be too much to handle in Pool B.

Rebisco remained at the bottom standings with two defeats after bowing to Kazkhastan’s Altay squad, 25-23, 25-13, 25-17 in Friday’s opener.

Chonburi's win also spoiled the debut of Aby Maraño, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Eya Laure and Ivy Lacsina for Rebisco after getting cleared to play.

The Filipinas fought back to keep the match close midway the second set by trailing 15-14 before the Thais, skippered by veteran Pleumjit Thinkaow, unloaded eight straight points for 23-14 that eventually led to a set victory.

Refusing to give up without a fight, Dindin Santiago Manabat and Faith Nisperos teamed up for the PH team’s offense to take the early 6-3 lead in the third frame.

But it proved to be the team’s last stand as the Thais slowly regained momentum to recover from a 7-6 deficit to a 22-13 lead.

Overall, the Filipinas gave up 26 points on errors against Chonburi’s 13.

The Thais also dominated the Filipinas on attacks (39-24), blocks (6-5), and aces (4-1).
