Fewer Senate aspirants, partylists file bids on 2nd day of COC filing

Fewer senatorial and partylist aspirants have filed their bids for national posts in the May 2022 elections on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Senate race

On the second day of the filing of candidacy for the Senate race, five senatorial hopefuls have filed their certificate of candidacy (COC), according to the Commission of Elections (Comelec).

They are Joel Apolinario, Raffy Tulfo, Loreto Banosan, JV Ejercito, and Rodelo Pidoy.

The latest filers brought the running tally of senatoriables for the next year’s polls to 19 after 14 Senate aspirants filed their COCs on Oct. 1.

Partylists

Compared to the number of filers the previous day, only nine partylists aspirants have filed their certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) on Saturday.

They are APEC, PhilRECA, Recoboda, Ako Padayon Pilipino, Abang Lingkod, Philippine National Police Retirees Association Inc. (PNPRAi), PDP Cares Foundation Inc., Ang Kabuhayan, Bagong Henerasyon (BH).

Comelec Director Elaiza Sabile-David said the CONA of Lingkod Bayanihan Partylists was not accepted after it lacked the needed requirements for the filing.

Sabile-David said the partylist may still refile their CONA within the filing period.

So far, the number of Partylist aspirants for the next year’s election now stood at 27.

The Comelec said the filing of COCs and CONAs for the May 2022 elections will run until Oct. 8.
