PCW urges 'Juanas' to get tested for breast cancer

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Philippines Commission on Women (PCW) is urging all "Juanas" to have themselves tested.

"We encourage all Juanas to practice regular self-breast examination, seek early consultation/teleconsultation if necessary, as we emphasize the importance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer among women," PCW said.

"Indeed, early detection of breast cancer can lead to better treatment results for patients."

In a study, breast cancer is the number one malignancy in women in the Philippines, the highest among Asian nations.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, commemorated every October, is an annual international health campaign organized to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure.
