Pasig diocese launches cause of beatification of 'Ka Luring' Franco


The Diocese of Pasig has formally launched the Cause of Beatification and Canonization of known catechist Laureana “Ka Luring” Franco who offered her life serving the diocese and the poor.

Pasig Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara made the announcement to coincide with the 10th death anniversary of “Ka Luring” and the observance of the 500 Year of Christianity in the country.

"According to the initial study of the life story, Christian virtues and apostolate of Ka Luring conducted by the Ad hoc Committee, there have been numerous reports of favors following her intercessory prayers and based from the initial documents gathered, she has lived a heroically virtuous life worthy of imitation, therefore, I, the Most. Rev. Mylo Hubert C. Vergara, Bishop of Pasig formally launched the cause of the Beatification and Canonization of our Sister Laureana “Ka Luring” Franco, lay catechist. May God who has begun the good work, bring it to fulfillment,” said Bishop Vergara.

Vergara announced the opening of the Diocesan Process of Inquiry for the cause of Beatification of “Ka Luring,” the Holy Catechist of Manila, on Oct. 17, 2020.

Born to a poor family on July 4, 1936 in Hagunoy, Taguig, “Ka Luring” joined the Legion of Mary as a devotee of the Blessed Mother. On April 1, 1990, upon the recommendation of then Archdiocese of Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin, “Ka Luring” was awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice from Saint John Paul II for her exemplary service as a lay catechist,

In 2002, she received the Mother Teresa Award for her service to the poor and the needy. She died of cancer on Oct. 17, 2011 at the age of 85.
