Las Pinas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar ordered the city’s veterinary office to conduct inspections on meats being sold in all supermarkets as well as talipapa and public markets around the city.
Aguilar issued the order after the Department of Agriculture ordered a temporary ban on the importation of live cattle, meat and meat products from the United Kingdom due to the reported mad cow disease.
Aguilar urged consumers to check on the Meat Inspection Certificate when buying all kinds of meat to make sure that they are safe for consumption.
Aguilar also said the Meat Inspection Certificate ensures that the meat products were properly handled and inspected.
She added the city government is also supporting the Meat Safety Consciousness Week from Oct. 18 to 22 with the theme “Kalusugan ng Lahat ay Mithiin, Karneng Ligtas Dapat Tangkilikin”.
