Parks, Nagoya spoil Ramos' debut in Toyama

Ray Parks Jr. and the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins spoiled Dwight Ramos' debut in Toyama and kept the Grouses winless with a 94-68 rout in their first meeting in Division I of the Japan B.League at the Toyama City Gymnasium Saturday, Oct. 16.

Parks broke out of his early slump and waxed hot after halftime, scoring 10 of his 15 points in the third quarter to power Nagoya to its second straight win.

The former TNT Tropang Giga went six-of-13 from the field and fired three-of-six from beyond the arc to go with four rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 20:32 minutes of play.

Scott Etherton spearheaded the Diamonds with 20 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and one block while Takumi Saito contributed 18 points, five assists, three rebounds, and three steals.

Nagoya pulled away for good as early as the 4:41 mark of the second period, doubling its lead at 40-20 after a Parks triple.

The Dolphins entered halftime with a comfortable 52-31 cushion capped by a three-pointer from Tatsuya Ito but it was in the third period where Parks continued the onslaught and exploded for 10 points including two treys, which enabled Nagoya to balloon its gap by 30 points, 71-41.

Bryce Johnson, for his part, paced Toyama with a double-double performance of 15 points and 14 rebounds to go with two assists.

Ramos, for his part, was limited to six point only in his B.League debut and added seven rebounds, and three assists.

Nagoya, who improved to a 2-3 record, will have the chance to repeat over the winless Toyama (0-5) Sunday, Oct. 17 at 12:05 p.m. (Manila time).
