PAGASA: Parts of PH may experience cloudy skies, rain showers due to ITCZ

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) may continue to bring rain showers over some parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, Oct. 15.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja explained that the ITCZ is the region where winds coming from the northern and southern hemispheres converge resulting in the formation of clouds and rainfall.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail over Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Estareja said PAGASA has not monitored a tropical depression that may enter the Philippine area of responsibility until the weekend.

However, he pointed out that there is a possibility that a low pressure area (LPA) may form within the ITCZ in the next few days.

While no gale warning is in effect, PAGASA still advised fishing boats and other small boats to take precautions when setting sail into the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon due to moderate to rough seas and western section of Luzon due to moderate seas.

The rest of the country will have slight to moderate seas.
