1Sambayan yet to name senatorial slate it will endorse for 2022 polls

Opposition coalition 1Sambayan has yet to come up with a list of senatorial candidates to support for the May 2022 polls, the group said Friday, Oct. 15, the same day Vice President Leni Robredo bared her senatorial slate.

"1Sambayan will soon announce the names of senatorial candidates that it will support for the 2022 national elections," 1Sambayan said in a statement.

"The convenors will still meet to discuss the senatorial candidates to support," it added.

The group, which endorses Robredo for the country's highest executive post, however, reiterated its "unconditional support" for Robredo and her running mate Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan.

"We feel a sense of fulfillment in performing our duty of choosing the right presidential candidate in VP Leni and, in turn, in her choice of running-mate," the coalition said.

"We support VP Leni in her continued effort to seek unity among political parties and among the people, and to ensure that the Leni-Kiko ticket represents the pro-democracy forces and the people's desire for leaders with the qualities of tapat na pagkatao, mahusay na pinuno, and marami nang nagawa," it added.

It further said that the group's objective to build a "formidable slate representing the broadest possible coalition" is almost complete.

"As the campaign nears, we now prepare for a long battle ahead. The fight is on," it said.
