New voter applicants and those who want to reactivate their registration are flocking to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Pateros.
The Comelec approved the extension of voter registration from Oct. 11 to 30 all over the country.
“Actually, ano pa rin, di pa naman kami bumababa sa 100. Tuloy-tuloy pa rin yung mga nagsisidatingan (Actually, it still is, we don't go below 100 . People continue to arrive in our office),” Pateros election officer Armando Mallorca said.
The Comelec is accepting applications for new voter registration, reactivation of registration for those who did not vote for two consecutive elections and correction of entries.
Mallorca said they are urging people to download forms from the Comelec website so that processing of their application will be quick. For reactivation of registration, this is done online so people need not go to the Comelec office.
He said the highest number of applications that Comelec-Pateros has received are for new voters. From Oct. 11 to 13, Comelec-Pateros has received 421 applications from new voters consisting of 176 on Oct. 11, 117 on Oct. 12 and 123 on Oct. 13.
Mallorca said Comelec-Pateros is implementing health and safety protocols due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic including social distancing and wearing of face masks and face shields for applicants.
He urged the public to register so they can vote in the May 9, 2022 elections.
