PSG.LGD hacked out a 2-1 victory over T1 to advance to the next round of the upper bracket in the main event of The International in Bucharest, Romania on Wednesday, October 13.
LGD banked on its fiery display in Game 3 to book its spot to the next round while dropping the South Korea-based squad to a lower bracket series against Alliance.
LGD pounced on the Carlo “Kuku” Palad-led T1 in the deciding match as its Ursa and Magnus combination of Wang “Ame” Chunyu and Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida worked to perfection and dominated T1 in the early game.
With the help of Zhao “XinQ” Zixing’s Io, LGD gained full map control which allowed its carries to freely farm and snowball early. LGD’s early aggression also prevented T1’s late game composition anchored on Nuengnara “23Savage” Teeramahanon’s Spectre and Karl “Karl” Jayme’s Storm Spirit to reach its power spike.
Cheng Jin “NothingToSay” Xiang was also exceptional on his Ember Spirit, finishing with a perfect 11-0-15 KDA while Ame and XinQ added 9-2-11 and 2-0-25 KDAs, respectively, to help LGD close out the series in a lopsided 32-9 affair.
It was also LGD which drew the first blood in the series after a 27-15 victory in the series opener. Ame on his Terrorblade led the onslaught in Game 1 with a perfect 12-0-6 KDA performance while NothingToSay on his Dragon Knight prevailed in his mid-lane match-up against T1 rising star Karl “Karl”Jayme with a 4-3-15 KDA.
T1 refused to back down in the second game after some adjustment to its draft and went toe-to-toe to the elimination’s Group B leaders. T1 played with the lead for most part in Game 2 but that didn’t bother LGD as it still engaged T1 in every clash.
T1 came out on top in the end, pulling off a 27-22 victory in the epic Game 2 showdown highlighted by a huge top lane clash that saw the 10 players getting killed and exhausting their buybacks all at the same time.
Kuku’s Magnus dictated the tempo with a 2-2-17 KDA while 23savage added 9-3-8 KDA in Game 2 win which were still not enough as they fell flat in the series clincher.
T1 and Alliance will be battling for their tournament lives on Thursday, 3PM (Manila Time).
