Quezon City Rep. Bong Suntay seeks reelection

Deputy Majority Floor Leader Jesus "Bong" Suntay filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) on Thursday, seeking reelection for a second term in the 4th District of Quezon City.

Joining him during the submission of COC at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office in Intramuros, Manila were Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, who is also eyeing another term), and City Councilors Marra Suntay, Ivy Lagman, Irene Belmonte, Janet Babes Malaya, Hero Bautista and Egay Yap.

A member of the majority at the House of Representatives, Atty. Suntay was elected as Deputy Majority Leader -- one of the occasions that a young solon was appointed in such position.

He was also appointed chair of the Committee on Human Rights in August 2019 and held the vice chairmanship of the committees of energy, government enterprises and privatization, as well as trade and industry.

Suntay authored numerous bills at the Lower Congress such as HB10213 (Electric Vehicle Industry Development Bill), HB10098 (Online Network Philippines Bill), HB07951 (OFW Remittance Protection Bill), among others.

Some of the measures he co-authored have already been enacted into law such as Republic Act (RA) 11569, also known as the Tax Amnesty Act; and RA 11466 that sought for the increase of minimum salaries of teachers; and R.A. 11561, an act increasing the bed capacity of East Avenue Medical Center.

Prior to his latest position, Suntay was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as one of the five directors at Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

Before his appointment to PCSO, the active lawmaker had served for five terms as city councilor in the 4th District of Quezon City.
