The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has cancelled the certificates of candidacy (COCs) of independent candidate Arlene Josephine Butay.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said Butay submitted two COCs.
"The Law Department cancelled the COCs of Arlene Josephine Butay (IND) who filed COCs for Vice President and Senator," he said in a statement Tuesday, Oct. 13.
"Under the law and Comelec regulations, a candidate who files a COC for two or more positions shall not be eligible for any of them," added Jimenez.
Based on the list of Comelec, Butay submitted her COCs on Oct. 8, the last day of the filing of COCs for the May 2022 polls.
Last week, the Comelec reported that from Oct. 1 to 8, the number of aspirants who filed for president totaled 97, for vice president 29, and 176 for senator.
Partylist groups that filed certificates of nomination and acceptance (CONA) totaled 270.
