Baguilat hits back at Erice: 'Leni is true opposition, has different base from Isko'
As the true opposition bet, Vice President Leni Robredo’s base voters are different from that of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno’s, former Ifugao representative and now senatorial aspirant Teddy Baguilat Jr. said on Wednesday, Oct. 13.

Baguilat, the vice president for internal affairs of the Liberal Party (LP), stressed that it is important to identify who the true opposition is in figuring out who truly are critical of the Duterte administration and the Marcoses, who are eyeing a return to Malacañang.
“Ako (Me), I really feel that our base is different from Isko. That is also shown in our polling, in our own surveys. Because one, the base is the opposition since 2016. That is our base,” Baguilat told ANC in an interview.
“Ito ‘yung mga nanalig, patuloy na nagra-rally (These are those who believed, who continue to rally), the 1Sambayan group also. That is not Isko’s base,” he added.
The former congressman said that although it’s important to unite the opposition, “The fundamental question for me is who is the true opposition.”

“As I’ve said, we have our own base. The true opposition is our base,” he stressed.
Aksyon Demokratiko chairman for National Capital Region Caloocan City 2nd District Rep. Edgar Erice claimed that if Robredo backs out from the Palace race, the Manila mayor will get 90 percent of her votes. But if Domagoso will withdraw his candidacy, Erice said his votes will go to the dictator’s son, former Senator Bongbong Marcos, and anyone anointed by President Duterte.
Erice gave this assessment in reaction to the hashtag #WithdrawIsko, which trended on Twitter when Robredo announced her candidacy for president last Oct. 7.

The Manila mayor’s camp believes that the Vice President is to blame if Marcos or an ally of President Duterte wins next year.
Baguilat belied these claims and said some of Moreno’s and Senator Manny Pacquiao’s voters will go to Robredo if they decide to withdraw their candidacies.
“But what we are more comfortable in stressing (is) our base will continue to flourish whether Isko stays or withdraws from the race,” he said.
Robredo’s camp is confident that her numbers will “improve dramatically.”
The Vice President has consistently lagged in presidential preference surveys, though historically, those who top the surveys during this period have never won the actual race.
It can be recalled that Robredo started with just a one percent awareness rating in 2015 but went on to win the vice presidential race against Marcos in 2016.
