Omega books playoff spot with sweep of RSG

Omega Esports booked a quarterfinals spot after a dominant 3-0 sweep of Malaysian squad Yoodoo RSG in the 2021 CODM World Championship: Garena Qualifiers on Monday, October 11.

Omega finished the group stage at the third spot of the Group A standings with a 3-5 record and 10 points across the board.

The Filipinos wasted no time in taking their spot in the next round as they swept RSG in its final assignment in the eliminations. Omega was led by series MVP Kennedy “Idra” Mondoy who finished with an average of 15 kills, eight assists against 10 deaths for a score of 2388.

Omega pulled away from a tight match in Summit after it conquered the fourth hardpoint from the RSG’s control and pulled off a solid five-man defense against the Malaysians. It was the Filipinos who dictated the tempo from that point to pick up a 150-116 victory and score the first point of the series.

Omega came out blazing as it scored the first five points on the Attacker’s side in Search and Destroy. RSG managed to get one point back after the switch but the Filipinos scored the final point in the next set to close Hackney Yard on a 6-1 tally.

The PH championship runner-up then bucked a slow start in Domination to score a 75-70 advantage in the first half. The Filipinos continued to roll in the second half, dominating the Malaysians the rest of the way for a 150-126 victory in Standoff.

Omega now awaits the second seed of the Group B standings as its opponent in the quarterfinals.
