Lady farmer loses most of harvested corn as TS Maring batters Cagayan

CAGAYAN — Even with the help of neighbors, a lady farmer could only save a portion of the hundreds of cavans of corns that she previously harvested and was supposed to be ready to be sold.


 
A post on social media saw a woman trying to salvage sacks of corns in Baggao, Cagayan while that town was being ravaged by Tropical Storm “Maring”.
 
“Nasa 20 (cavans) lang ang naisalba sa kabuuang 450 (cavans). (Only 20 cavans were saved out of the 450 cavans),” said one of the farmers who posted photos of the incident.
 
“Talaga naman maiiyak ka na makita mo iyong naghirap na farmer na mauuwi lang sa ganito ang lahat nang pinaghirapan nila. Halos taon taon ganito ang sitwasyon ng mga farmers tuwing may bagyo (You can help but shed tears when you see all the hardkwork of farmers ending up like this. It has been like this every year,“ said a resident.
 
Netizens who chimed in on the incident made an appeal to candidates of next year’s elections not to forget farmers in their political platforms.
