DOH adds 8,615 new COVID-19 cases

The Philippines has recorded 8,615 more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

The country's COVID-19 tally grew to 2,683,372 since the pandemic hit the country last year. About 3.1 percent or 82,228 of the total case count remained active.

Based on the latest DOH update, 73.2 percent of the currently ill patients have mild symptoms, 14.2 percent are asymptomatic, 7.28 percent are moderate, 3.8 percent are severe, and 1.6 are critical.

The DOH also listed 236 new deaths and 25,146 new survivors. These figures caused the death toll and recovery count to increase to 39,896 and 2,561,248, respectively.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said that the country's COVID-19 cases are still declining, while the situation in hospitals is also improving.

"Nakikita natin na nagsisimula nang bumaba ang mga kaso sa karamihan ng mga rehiyon habang nakakakita tayo nang paunti-unti rin namang pagbuti sa atin pong healthcare at ICU utilization rates (We are seeing that cases are starting to decrease in most regions, while we are also seeing a gradual improvement in our healthcare and ICU utilization rates)," said Duque.

"Upang mas mapagbuti pa ang COVID-19 situation, patuloy ang aming panawagan na palakasin ang ating prevent, detect, isolate, treat, and reintegrate. At ang ika-anim po na humahaligi sa ating tugon sa pandemyang COVID-19 ay ang magpabakuna (To further improve the COVID-19 situation, we continue to call to strengthen our prevent, detect, isolate, treat, and reintegrate strategies. Duque expressed his gratitude to the different local government units for their active case finding.

"Dahil dito ay mas mabilis pong naia-isolate or naka-quarantine ang mga exposed via contact tracing, aggressive contact tracing, and efficient isolation and quarantine and testing (As a result, those exposed can be isolated or quarantined faster through aggressive contact tracing, and efficient isolation and testing)," he said.

So, ito po ay kinakailangan para talagang mapigilan ang paghahawaan o maputol ang kadena ng hawaan ng COVID-19 at maiwasan ang pagkukumpol-kumpol ng mga kaso sa mga komunidad (So, this is necessary to really prevent or break the chain of COVID-19 transmission and prevent clustering of cases in the communities)," he added.
