60% of Filipinos fear 'worst yet to come' in COVID-19 crisis -- SWS

Filipinos' outlook on the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has worsened as the proportion of those who fear the "worst is yet to come" has surged to a record-high in the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey results released on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
The non-commissioned survey conducted from Sept. 12 to 16 with 1,200 respondents found that 60 percent of Filipinos think that the worst of the pandemic is yet to come.
The result surpassed the previous worst of 57 percent in July 2020, SWS said in a statement.
"Conversely, those saying 'the worst is behind us' fell from 59 percent in June 2021 to 38 percent in September 2021. This is the lowest since the record-low 35 percent in July 2020" it added.
Catching COVID-19 worries 91% of Filipinos
During the same survey period, SWS found 91 percent of adult Filipinos worried (76 percent a great deal worried, 15 percent somewhat worried) and 9 percent a little/not worried (4 percent a little worried, 5 percent not worried) that anyone in their immediate family might catch COVID-19.
The pollster pointed out that the latest percentage of those worried about catching COVID-19 is four points above the 87 percent in June 2021 and tied the record-high level reached in November 2020.

"The percentage of those fearing 'the worst is yet to come' with the COVID-19 crisis is always higher among those worried about catching COVID-19 than those not worried," SWS said.
