MPL Philippines Season 8 Operating Committee is set to conduct its investigation on the bizarre Games 1 and 2 between Nexplay Evos and Omega Esports in the final match of the regular season.
With the teams only fighting for placing, the two fielded the reserves in the series. What was unusual though was how both Omega and NXPE played the two games.
In Game 1, NXPE led by Setsuna “Dogie” Ignacio utilized an unusual five flameshot lineup while in Game 2, Omega, led Billy “Z4pnu” Alfonso, used the diggie feeding strat. That, along with controversial plays and lopsided numbers, pushed MPL PH to take actions in hopes to uphold professionalism and competitive integrity in the league.
“We are aware of the controversial behavior during the match between Nexplay EVOS and Omega Esports in Week 7. Please be assured that the MPL-PH Operating Committee will investigate and take necessary actions per our rule book and guidelines. Professionalism and competitive integrity are highly important and are core values of MPL-PH, and those who do not take these values seriously will be punished accordingly,” MPL-PH said in a statement released through its social media accounts.
Fans had mixed reactions about the games and also took to social media to voice their opinions.
The league will release the results upon the completion of its investigation and is expected to take actions to those involved if proved to have violated the rules. MPL PH assured the fans that it is also keeping an open ear for their feedbacks
“We will release more information once our investigations have concluded. Once again, we expect all players to follow a strict code of conduct. We will work and listen to the feedback of our fans to build a more professional tournament for all,” the statement ended.
NXPE and Omega have yet to release its statements regarding the matter as of posting time
