Energy Secretary Alfonsi Cusi on Monday, Oct. 11, called on energy players to activate preparatory response measures to avoid power interruptions in areas possibly to be affected by tropical storm "Maring."
Cusi made the call "to ensure the continued delivery of energy services," although so far the areas forecasted to be affected by Maring are still under normal operations.
According to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines Grid Update, the supply and reserve status in the country as of 6 a.m. is the following:
Luzon (normal)
• Available Capacity: 11,261 MW
• Peak Demand: 9,697 MW
• Regulating Reserve: 380 MW
• Net Operational Margin: AM = 1,184 MW; PM = 1,021 MW; EVE = 1,651 MW
Visayas (normal)
• Available Capacity: 2,679 MW
• Peak Demand: 2,018 MW
• Regulating Reserve: 35 MW
• Net Operational Margin: AM = 661 MW; PM = 538 MW; EVE = 436 MW
Meanwhile, all dams under the National Power Corporation (NPC) are in normal operations and have reported no spilling operations as of 8 a.m., the Department of Energy (DOE) said.
Although the Calayan Diesal Power Plant (DPP) is not operational as of 4:34 AM due to a line fault, other plants and facilities have not incurred any significant damages due to Maring, DOE added.
