Tropical depression "Nando" weakened into a low pressure area (LPA) as it begins to merge with tropical storm "Maring" (international "Kompasu").

"The circulation of the remnant low will likely be fully assimilated within the circulation of tropical storm Maring in the next 12 hours," PAGASA said.

The LPA was last spotted at 1,105 kilometers (km) east of northern Luzon at around 10 p.m. It was moving southwestward at 25 kilometers per hour (kph).

PAGASA estimated the center of tropical depression "Nando" at 895 km east of Central Luzon at around 4 p.m.

It has maintained its maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph. It is currently moving west-southwestward at 20 kph.

In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said tropical depression Nando and tropical storm "Maring" (international name "Kompasu") will continue to interact with each other in a potential merger event.

Afterward, the resulting merger, likely dominated by Maring, will move generally west-northwestward until Monday, Oct. 11, before turning westward by Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Based on the latest forecast track, the storm will cross the Luzon Strait and pass over or close to Batanes and Babuyan Islands between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

PAGASA said the center of tropical depression "Nando" was located 930 km east of Central Luzon.

It slightly weakened with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph while moving west-southwestward at 45 kph.

Based on the latest forecast scenario, PAGASA is still seeing a possible merging of tropical storm "Maring" (international name "Kompasu" and tropical depression Nando while over the Philippine Sea.

Tropical storm Maring, being the larger cyclone, will likely persist in the "merger event," it pointed out.

The center of tropical depression "Nando" was located 1,105 km east of Northern Luzon.

It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph while moving westward at 25 kph.

PAGASA said the interaction between Nando and tropical storm "Maring" (international name "Kompasu") may result in the merging of the two cyclones into one within the next 36 hours.

Storm Maring, being the larger cyclone, will likely persist in the "merger event," it pointed out.

The storm may traverse the Luzon Strait and pass over or close to Batanes and Babuyan Islands between Monday evening, Oct. 11, and Tuesday morning, Oct. 12, based on the latest forecast track.
