Taguig City recorded the highest number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines in the Oct. 9 tally.

This is according to Dr. Guido David of OCTA Research based on data from the Department of Health (DOH).

PCR testing in Taguig (Taguig City government)

According to David, Taguig posted 466 new COVID-19 cases for Oct. 9, the highest among local government units (LGUs) in the country.

It was followed by Quezon City with 451; Baguio, 255; Davao City, 197; Manila, 145; Zamboanga City, 141; Marikina, 139; Dasmarinas in Cavite, 137; Cauayan in Isabela, 130; and Bacolod City, 125.

David said that from Oct. 2 to 8, the seven-day average for new cases in Metro Manila totaled 2,140, down 41 percent from 3,627 cases from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1. The reproduction number in NCR is 0.61, a decrease from 0.81 the previous week.

The average daily attack rate (ADAR) per 100,000 population in NCR is 15.32, an improvement from 25.97 the previous week.

The one-week growth rate decreased by 41 percent, compared to a decrease of 17 percent from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1. OCTA Research now classifies NCR as moderate risk from the previous high risk.

Based on its own tally, the Taguig City government recorded 735 active COVID-19 cases as of Oct. 8 including 276 new cases for the day. Taguig has 47,843 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 46,759 recoveries and 349 deaths. It has conducted a total of 213,404 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.
