Team Choco Mucho yields to Thai club

Team Choco Mucho dropped its first match in the 2021 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Asian Women's Club Championship after yielding to Nakhon Ratchasima QminC VC, 25-11, 28-26, 25-17, at the Terminal 21 Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand Friday, Oct. 1.

Up 2-0, Nakhon Ratchasima sealed the deal in the third set after surging to a 16-9 lead and never looked back.

Chatchu-on Moksri led the Thai club with 20 points on top of 18 kills while Kannika Thipachot also fired 14 attacks.

"It was a tough game for us since the Philippine players are quite tall and strong. The second set was rather difficult, but we kept our balance and won the match," said Nootsara Tomkom, captain of the Nakhon Ratchasima QminC VC.

Choco Mucho had its best chances for redemption in the second canto, where Kalei Mau led most of the offense with four straight points en route to a 24-23 advantage.

Nakhon Ratchasima retook the lead at 25-24 but Dell Palomata's through-the-block hit and Mylene Paat's crosscourt attack paved the way for a 26-24 cushion.

After back-to-back deadlocks, the Thai squad survived courtesy of two straight attacks coming from Moksri capped off by a Thidarat Pengwichai service ace for the set win.

Mau paced Choco Mucho with 12 points coming from 11 attacks and a block.

Up next for Team Choco Mucho is Kazakhstan's VC Zhetysu on Saturday, Oct. 2 at the same venue.
