Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said on Friday (Oct. 1) that he will run after individuals who "exploited" the COVID-19 pandemic for their personal gains.

“Alam mo there is what you call plunder, regular day. But there is also what you call ‘plundemic.’ Plunder in pandemic,” he said in an interview with the media during the oath-taking of new members of Aksyon Demokratiko at Mehan Garden.
Domagoso also said that the widespread exploitations amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic are tantamount to rape.
He said those people -- both in the government and private companies -- who were involved in corruption and abuses during the pandemic will be held accountable.
“Di natin sila bibigyan ng mahimbing na tulog (We will not let them sleep peacefully),” he said.
The local chief executive said the rule of law and due process will still be applied to the people accused of corruption.
“Kikilalanin pa rin natin ang mga institusyon ng ating bansa tulad ng husgado. Karapatan ng bawat isa maipagtanggol ang kanilang sarili. Ngunit, tayo naman, hindi tayo magkikibit-balikat lamang na makakalaya ang sa tingin natin may sala (We will still recognize the institutions of our country such as the judiciary. Everyone has the right to defend themselves. But, we, on the other hand, will not just shrug off to free those we think are guilty),” Domagoso stressed.
