Senator Richard Gordon disclosed Friday, Oct. 1, that he declined an offer to be the running mate of his colleague Sen. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao for the 2022 elections.

Gordon, in a television interview, said Pacquiao considered him to be his vice president.
"Somebody from Mr. Pacquiao came here yesterday – a good friend of mine – up to the last minute, he wanted me to be his vice president," Gordon said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel.
"Sabi ko, 'Wala sa isip ko 'yan' (I told them, 'It's not on my mind')," he added, repeating that he is currently focused on the investigation of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on the government's purchases during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I have perished that thought at the moment...I am totally focused on this ," Gordon maintained.
Pacquiao's camp confirmed this information to the Manila Bulletin, clarifying that a "common friend" of the two lawmakers approached Gordon Thursday, a day before the period of filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) started.
But Pacquiao did not personally reach out to Gordon about the offer even as he welcomed the possibility of Gordon being his running mate, his staff member said.
The boxing-champion-turned-politician was the first presidential aspirant to file his candidacy before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
He was accompanied by House deputy speaker and BUHAY Party List Representative Jose "Lito" Atienza, who turned out to be senator's running mate for the 2022 polls.
Atienza also filed his candidacy for the vice presidential race.
Gordon previously admitted considering running for president next year, ruling out the possibility of him gunning for vice presidency.
But when asked if he declined Pacquiao to possibly become a running mate of another presidential candidate, Gordon hinted: "You're right, but we have not talked yet and we might talk anytime soon."
In July, the senator met Vice President Leni Robredo as part of the latter's effort to unite opposition candidates for next year's elections.
Still, Gordon refused to detail his political plans as it would supposedly be used against the Blue Ribbon Committee's ongoing probe.
He earlier said that he will decide on October 8, the last day of the filing of COCs.
