Out of frustration with the current situation of the country, Samuel “Sonny” S. Sanchez, a private individual who has never held public office in his entire life, filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator on Friday afternoon, Oct.1, at the Sofitel tent in Pasay City.

In his speech after filing his COC, he has appealed to the public to give chance to “capable” individuals like him to serve the country.
“I hope this coming election, let’s take a look at new candidates na marunong (that know how) and are willing to sacrifice. Let’s give a chance sa mga marurunong, doon sa mga may kakayahan (...to those who know how, and to those who are capable)!” he appealed.
One of his platforms, according to him, is to conduct studies and make laws that will streamline the benefits of medical frontliners and senior citizens.
After graduating college, Sanchez said he spent over 20 years conducting studies in the field of marketing and business.
Should he be elected, he said that he would push for strengthening the military capabilities of the country in order to assert its sovereign rights to the West Philippine Sea being claimed by China.
Moreover, Sanchez wants to boost the support of the government to farmers in order to boost the local economy.
According to him, he will donate to the poor and charities half of his salary as a senator should he get elected.
“I ever I am elected as senator, I will donate half of my salary sa mga mahihirap (to the poor), sa (to) charity. Hindi ko kailangan ang pera, even though simple lang ang buhay ko (I don’t need money, even I just live a simple life now).”
