Duterte OKs 30-day extension of voter registration for 2022 polls
President Duterte has signed into law the measure extending the deadline for the registration of new voters for the 2022 elections for another 30 days.

The original deadline for the voter registration period was on September 30, 2021.
Based on Republic Act (RA) No. 11591, signed by Duterte on September 30, the last day of registration of voters for the 2022 National and Local Elections shall be 30 days after the effectivity of the new law.
The new law will take effect immediately after its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.
Following strong clamor from the public due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdowns, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier finally gave in and decided to extend the voter registration period for another 30 days.
The Comelec had twice rejected the calls to extend the voter registration period, saying it could derail preparations for the elections next year.
Meanwhile, registration will be suspended on the first week of October to give way for the filing of certificates of candidacy by those who want to run in the 2022 elections.
Voter registration is open on Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
