House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda filed her certificate of candidacy for senator in the May 2022 elections on Friday, Oct. 1.
Legarda was the first senatorial hopeful to file her COC during the first day of the filing at Garden Tent, Sofitel in Pasay City.
She is currently the representative of the lone district of Antique.
Legarda previously served as senator from 1998 to 2004, and from 2007 to 2019.
In a short speech, the lawmaker said she believes that what is needed right now is someone that has a vast experience, not only in making important laws according to pandemic recovery, but also those who know how to respond to the needs of health, livelihood, and education.
“I believe that with my past experience as a former majority leader, as a senator for three terms I’ve been able to craft the laws that are helping our people right now and there is much more that I can give our people,” she said.
“Especially this pandemic because I believe the pandemic recovery is not just a matter of healthcare but also a matter of economic recovery for every Filipino family,” she added.
Legarda previously ran for vice president twice, in 2004 as the running mate of the late renowned actor Fernando Poe Jr. and again in 2010 with Manny Villar.
Before going into politics, she was a journalist and a broadcaster.
