Couple killed, 5 injured in grenade explosion incident


ILIGAN CITY – A couple died while five others were injured in a grenade explosion in Purok 8 Kubayan, Casisang, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon Friday morning, October 8.

Malaybalay City Police Station officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant Colonel Ritchie A. Salva identified the victims as 44-year-old Jojit Leona and his wife Remalyn Leona, 35. Jojit worked as a janitor at the Hall of Justice in Malaybalay City.

Investigation revealed that an argument started when Jojit, who was holding a grenade, confronted his wife allegedly for having an illicit affair with another man.

The grenade eventually exploded, killing both instantly.

Injured in the blast was Remalyn’s sister Raiza Mae Pacaldo, a child and another minor who is a neighbor of the victims. Those who were hurt were brought to the nearby Malaybalay Polymedic General Hospital.

Recovered from the scene were one safety lever, one full ring, ten pieces of fragmentation and one striker spring believed to be from a hand grenade blast.
