Boracay-based radio broadcaster runs for Aklan vice governor

ILOILO CITY – While many candidates in Aklan province are from political clans, a radio broadcaster based at world-famous Boracay Island is running for vice governor.

Jonathan Cabrera filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for vice governor of Aklan Friday, October 8, at the Commission on Elections (Comelec-Aklan) in Kalibo town.

Cabrera is set to face incumbent Vice Governor Reynaldo “Boy” Quimpo and Aklan Provincial Board Member Immanuel “Noli” Sodusta.

Cabrera is running under the People’s Reform Party, which was founded by the late feisty Ilongga senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

Popularly known as “Idol Jonathan”, Cabrera again decided to join the political exercise to further serve the people of Aklan province.

Cabrera was previously a councilor of Malay, where Boracay is located.

During his tenure as councilor in 2010-2013, Cabrera authored various local ordinances that focused on environmental protection and preservation of the country’s most famous beach destination.

After his term, Cabrera went back to media work and founded Radyo Todo, a network of radio stations in Panay Island. The radio station has been vital in linking the regular Aklanons in getting social services.
