Lucy says she has big shoes to fill in Ormoc

TACLOBAN CITY - Despite leading the surveys for senator, Leyte 4th Dist. Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez chose to serve her hometown in Ormoc City, switching posts with her husband Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez.

Lucy, accompanied by her husband and the Development Team filed her certificate of candidacy (CoC) Friday (October 8).

Although she is the most senior member of the house of representatives having completed over 11 years in congress, Lucy said she has big shoes to fill in Ormoc.

"I do not take for granted the opportunity to serve. It will be more challenging because I'll be more hands-on...It will not always be easy but the job can be done and it will be done well," she said.

She cited that Ormoc was in a bad shape when Richard assumed as mayor but under Goma's leadership, he was able to transform the city during his two terms as mayor.

"It used to be the drug capital in the region but in less than two years it became the safest city not only in the region but the entire country," she said.

She added that swapping positions with her husband is merely a formality since Goma has been with her since she started public service.

"Whatever my success as a representative is largely because I have Richard by my side. Our accomplishments will speak for themselves," she shared.

Lucy vows to continue the plans of her husband especially in peace and order and good governance that is fair for all.

"One thing to fix a broken system is as simple as fixing it without favoring anybody," she stressed.
