Ex-senator Trillanes seeks Senate comeback for 2022

Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is seeking for a Senate comeback this 2022, filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday, October 8, at the Sofitel Tent in Pasay City.

Running under the ticket of presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo, Trillanes reiterated how Robredo's bid for the highest position in the country affected his group's decision for his political path.

"I was never vocal about running for vice president. I articulated that in several interviews that if VP Leni would run for president, I would run for senator. Iyon po ang desisyon ng aming grupo (That’s the decision of our group), Magdalo," he noted.

It can be recalled that the senatorial aspirant mentioned in previous interviews that he will join the presidential race should Robredo would not finalize her 2022 political plans.

In 2011, former President Benigno Aquino III granted amnesty to Trillanes and his companions in the so-called Oakwood Hotel mutiny in 2003 and the Manila Peninsula Hotel siege in 2007 in Makati City.

He served two terms as senator, authoring the revised AFP Modernization Law, the Anti-bullying Law, and the Expanded Anti-trafficking in Persons Act.
