The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the conduct of the filing of the certificates of candidacy (COC) for the May 2022 polls was a success.
"Overall we can say that the conduct of COC filing nationwide was successful," Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas said in am online press briefing Friday, Oct. 8.
"Although we are in the middle of a pandemic, we were able to ensure the orderly conduct of this activity nationwide," he added.
The Comelec, meantime, reported that from Oct. 1 to 8, the number of aspirants who filed for president totaled 97, for vice president 29, and 176 for senator.
Partylist groups that filed certificates of nomination and acceptance (CONA) totaled 270.
As to the number of filers for local positions: 466 for member, House of Representatives; 165 for governor; 135 vice governor; 1,274 member, sangguniang panlalawigan; 2,909 mayor; 2,563 vice mayor; and 23,565 member, sangguniang panlungsod.
Among the prominent personalities who filed for president are Vice President Leni Robredo, Senators Manny Pacquiao, Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, Panfilo Lacson, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, former senator Bongbong Marcos and defense secretary Norberto Gonzales.
For vice president: senators Bong Go, Tito Sotto, Kiko Pangilinan, Buhay Partylist Rep. Lito Atienza and Doc Willie Ong.
For senator: Senators Leila de Lima, Win Gatchalian, Dick Gordon, former senator Antonio Trillanes IV, former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, human rights lawyers Chel Diokno and Neri Colmenares, former presidential aspirants Jejomar Binay and Gilbert Teodoro to name a few.

The filing of COCs and CONA were held from Oct. 1 to 8.
