Mayor Nieto, who is serving his last term as mayor of the country’s richest municipality, Cainta, confirmed to Manila Bulletin, in a text message, that he will not be eyeing for a higher political position this coming May 9, 2022 election.

“Nope,” said Mayor Nieto when asked by this reporter if he has plans to seek higher position.

Rumors have been circulating in the province that Mayor Kit, who is a lawyer, would be aiming either a gubernatorial or vice gubernatorial post in Rizal as his three consecutive term since 2013 as municipal mayor ends next year.

Instead, Nieto said he ‘will just support’ his wife, Atty. Elen Nieto, who, according to the mayor, is set to file her certificate of candidacy at the Commission on Elections- Cainta at 8 a.m. on October 8, as a mayoral candidate.

Mayor Kit’s casual get-up of worn-out maong pants and T-shirt, even during special gatherings and formal occasions, has been his trademark, making him known among residents as a down-to-earth mayor.
