Colmenares: Makabayan bloc willing to work with Leni to unite opposition

Bayan Muna chairperson Neri Colmenares welcomed on Thursday, October 7, the decision of Vice President Leni Robredo to run for president in the coming national midterm elections.

"I welcome Vice President Leni Robredo’s decision to run for president in the 2022 elections," said Colmenares.

"The Makabayan Coalition is certainly willing to work with her and other non-administration candidates in ending Duterte’s tyranny, preventing a Marcos restoration, and uplifting the country from the catastrophe of the past five years."

Colmenares, a former Bayan Muna representative in the House of Representatives from 2009 to 2016, filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator in next year's election.

He remained hopeful that unification among the ranks of those opposing a possible Duterte or Marcos presidency can still be possible.

"A unified opposition slate is still our best bet against the perpetuation or worsening of our current state," he said.

"Even as they have formally filed their candidacies, we urge VP Robredo, Mayor Isko Moreno and Sen. Manny Pacquiao to continue exploring possibilities for unification," Colmenares appealed. (Melvin Sarangay)
