Aespa’s ‘Savage’ album sells 147,000 copies on first day, tops iTunes in 17 markets


K-pop girl group aespa’s first mini-album “Savage” sold 147,000 copies and topped iTunes in 17 countries and regions after its release.

Aespa released “Savage” on Oct. 5 and according to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, the album sold 147,195 copies on the first day of release to grab the No. 1 spot on the daily album chart.

Before its release, “Savage” accumulated a total of 401,088 copies in pre-orders as of Oct. 4, according to SM Entertainment, their agency.

The agency said the album ranked No. 1 in 17 markets: Japan, Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, Russia, Denmark, Vietnam, Philippines, India, Peru, Malaysia, Oman, Indonesia, Taiwan, Kazakhstan, Laos and Mongolia.

The song “Savage,” the title track of the album, topped real-time music charts in Korea such as Melon, Genie and Bugs after its release. As of writing, the song is No. 5 on music chart aggregation site iChart.

SM Entertainment also said “Savage” topped the Korean music section on China’s QQ Music new song and music video charts. On YouTube, the music video for "Savage" has garnered 15.9 million views as of writing since it was uploaded on Oct. 5.

During their online press conference for “Savage” on Oct. 5, aespa talked about their goals.

“Since ‘Savage’ is our first mini album containing a total of six tracks, we would like to show that aespa is a group that can pull off various colors and not only powerful songs such as ‘Black Mamba’ and ‘Next Level,’” said Karina.

She added, “Also, through our music, we want people to know that aespa’s worldview story will continue and expand more with new stories. We worked really hard on this album, so hearing people say ‘I knew aespa would perform so well’ would make us really happy.”

Winter said, “This is the first physical album we are releasing since our debut with ‘Black Mamba’ last November. Everyone has been anticipating and waiting, and we are very excited and nervous to finally showcase it. Also, through this album, we are glad to be able to reveal our diverse charms through other songs besides the title track.”
